Keep Your Resceukit Ready When It Matters Most
Emergencies do not wait for the perfect time. Your gear must be ready to go at a moment's notice. This guide outlines how to keep your Resceukit in top condition throughout the year, with guidance on refreshing supplies, upgrading based on life changes, and adapting to regional threats.
Routine Maintenance: Every 6 Months
Every six months, go through the following checklist to ensure your kit stays reliable:
Check expiration dates:
- First aid supplies
- Ration bars (if included)
- Soap sheets
- Glow sticks
Recharge and test:
- USB lights
- Radios (crank or solar)
- Any power banks
Inspect for wear or damage:
- Sleeping bag and inflatable mattress
- Dry bag, backpack, poncho
- Water containers (bladder and folding bag)
Repack consumables:
- Masks and gloves
- Condensed tissues
- Human waste bags
Tip: If your kit is stored in a vehicle or garage, inspect it more often. Extreme heat or cold can shorten the lifespan of certain items.
When to Upgrade or Add Items
Situations change. Your emergency kit should change too. Consider adding items or upgrading your kit when the following applies:
Household Changes
- New household members? Add a second adult pack, or a child, infant, or pet pack.
- Hosting guests or taking care of a loved one? Make sure there are duplicate essentials like a second water bladder, sleeping mat, and dry bag.
- Seasonal Changes
Update your kit in spring and fall:
- Summer Add-ons: Cooling towel, insect net, additional water containers
- Winter Add-ons: Heat packs, gloves, extra insulation
Current Events or Local Risk Factors
- Rising tension in your area or neighboring countries
- News of energy blackouts or supply chain disruptions
- Alerts from local governments recommending extended preparedness
In these cases, consider upgrading to a longer-duration kit or refreshing older gear. You can find 24, 48, and 72 hour kits directly on our site.
Storage Tips
- Store kits in a dry, cool place near an exit
- For vehicles, keep a compact version of your kit in the trunk
- Add a small tag to each bag with the last maintenance check date
